Our Classes Are Based…
In a beautiful private pool at Truro Prep School, in the heart of Cornwall.
The pool is always warm and we teach children from ages 4+ years (with adult sessions available upon request - we welcome everyone!).
Our coaches are certified Lifeguards and have extensive experience with safeguarding in the water…
Our lessons are:
based primarily in the beautiful, heated swimming pool at Truro Preparatory School, on Wednesdays.
We work with each child on an individual basis and work with them to be the best and the safest that they can be.
The teaching is bespoke and we don’t follow a specific award structure. However, it is possible to work through Awards, if this is appropriate.
There is the option to explore lots of specialist equipment, during guided free play sessions. Our 6pm class offers the opportunity for a parent/carer/responsible adult to accompany a child in the water for the session.

One of our students, for example, has sensory sensitivities due to Autism and was feeling overwhelmed at the start of the lesson. Our coaches cleared the poolside, reduced the toys down to a minimum, covered some equipment with a towel and created a calmer environment. With the student now relaxed, they were free to engage in the activities.
We respond to where the learner is at, in that particular session. In the next session, they could be responding differently and we change the session accordingly.
After many years of coaching, we believe that children with disabilities and neurodivergence deserve more than just standard swimming classes. They may have unique challenges to face and different learning needs. It is our mission to create an environment where those needs are fully understood and each challenge is overcome with a splash of creativity and fun!
What Makes Us Different?
Kernow Lighthouse is a swim school of total acceptance and freedom. These classes often have 2 coaches focusing on 1-4 children exclusively, tuned in and adjusting lessons to respond to each child’s needs.
